Located on the Niagara River between the United States and Canada, the three waterfalls of Niagara Falls form the highest flowrate waterfall in the world. The largest of the three, Horseshoe Falls, drops more than 165 feet, and is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by the combination of height and flowrate. This immense waterfall generates its own cloud of mist, which constantly obscures the view of the base of the falls. The closest view of the base of the falls is provided via the Maid of the Mist, a boat tour departing from the Canadian side of the river. Here, the boat approaches the rocky base of the falls, with a rainbow above, as the width of the falls recedes into the mist-obscured distance.
